Box Score
IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata women's soccer team (6-8-2, 5-2-2 CSAC) hosted the top-seeded Rosemont Ravens (10-5-0, 8-1-0 CSAC) on Tuesday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium, and the Ravens scored a late first half goal to give them an early lead that they would hold onto in a 2-0 Immaculata defeat. Junior goalie
Meghan McCurnin made several key stops in the contest and finished with nine saves on the afternoon.
In the first half, both teams played very well defensively and limited scoring opportunities for the other side. It appeared as if the teams would go scoreless into the locker room, but the Ravens scored a goal with 32 seconds left in the period to give them a 1-0 advantage at the half. Rosemont's leading-scorer Stephanie Tramburro kicked it into the top of the net off the underside of the crossbar, and it narrowly crossed the goal line for the first goal of the contest.
After the break, the Ravens had a couple early chances, but junior goalie
Meghan McCurnin made two diving saves to keep the Mighty Macs just one goal down. The Mighty Macs increased the offensive pressure in the second half as they generated some opportunities from freshman
Carly Mirarchi, junior
Rachel Gannon, and freshman
Rachel Lamb, but were unable to net the equalizer.
Rosemont added an important insurance goal with 16:47 left in the game as Kerry Hars scored on a corner that deflected in off a defender for a 2-0 Raven advantage that IU was unable to overcome.
The Mighty Macs will travel to Centenary on Saturday at noon, and with a victory, they will clinch a CSAC playoff berth for the first time since 2010.
