Mighty Macs Suffer Tough Defeat in Season Finale

BOX SCORE

IMMACULATA, Pa.-
On Senior Day for Immaculata seniors Bridget Cunningham and Robin Valerio, the Mighty Macs fought to tie the game in the second half, but a late Neumann goal was the difference in a 2-1 Knight victory.  Immaculata finished the season at 3-6-2 in the league and 3-12-2 overall.

Defenses controlled the first half with just seven shots total between the two teams as the game remained scoreless going into the second half.

In the second half, both offenses picked up the pace of play.  In the 60th minute, Kristin Ambrose put home a deflected ball off a corner for a 1-0 Neumann lead.

However, Immaculata responded just ten seconds later when Rachel Gannon slipped behind the defense off the kickoff and found the back of the net to tie the score at 1-1.  The goal was Gannon's team-leading seventh of the season.

After the two quick scores, each team found the post in their attempt to take the lead and Neumann finally did so in the 76th minute when Meghan Garsey made a run from midfield and hit a shot just over the outstretched arms of Meghan McCurnin for the 2-1 Knight advantage.

Immaculata tried to apply some offensive pressure as time was winding down, but were unable to net the equalizer and fell 2-1.

McCurnin was strong in goal with 12 saves.

Rachel Gannon finished the season as the leader in points as well with 14.
