Immaculata Falls to Cabrini on Senior Day

BOX SCORE

IMMACULATA, Pa.-
On Field Hockey Senior Day at Draper Walsh Stadium, Cabrini came in and scored three early first half goals to build a lead they would not relinquish in a 5-2 victory over Immaculata.  The game was the final home contest for seniors Bridget McMenamin, Lucy Leonard, and Mary Beth Plastek and each of them were involved in the two Immaculata goals.  Plastek and Leonard each scored late goals, while McMenamin provided an assist.  The Mighty Macs fell to 1-6 in the CSAC in their final conference game and 1-15 for the season overall.

In the first half, Lindsay Atzert scored two goals for the Cavaliers within two minutes of each other to build an early, insurmountable lead.  Karlie Gruccio scored the third goal of the first half for Cabrini.  The Mighty Macs best chance of the half was when Plastek ripped a shot from the top of the circle, but Cabrini's goalie, Genevieve Paulin, kicked it away to preserve the shutout.

Cabrini got off to the same hot start in the second half that they began the game with.  Kerry Anne Farrell found the back of the cage twice to make it 5-0 by the 42nd minute.

In the 55th minute, the Mighty Macs had another good scoring chance when Leonard earned a penalty shot, but Ashley O'Donnell's try sailed just wide left of the net to keep the score at 5-0.

Immaculata finally broke through in the 65th minute when Plastek knocked into the back of the cage off a corner to make it 5-1.  It was Plastek's second goal of the season and Natalie Rivera provided her third assist.

In the final thirty seconds of the game, the Mighty Macs had a corner and they cashed in when Leonard knocked in a pass from McMenamin on the door step to close the scoring at 5-2.  It was Leonard's first goal of the season and second of her career while it was McMenamin's second assist of 2012.

Tiffany Lockfeld and Plastek led the team with 4 shots each.

Patsy Murphy had 3 saves in the game.

The Mighty Macs will wrap up their 2012 campaign with a trip to DeSales this Friday at 3:30 p.m.
