Bridget Cunningham set a new school record with an early assist to give her the most career points in school history at 31, and she later added a goal of her own.
Cunningham got the record breaking point on a perfect pass to
Rachel Gannon who was making a run down the middle of the field. Gannon received the pass just outside the box and ripped a shot just over the goalie's outstretched arms into the top of the net for a 1-0 Immaculata lead in the 7
th minute for her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Cunningham had two more chances herself on free runs to the cage, but one shot sailed high and the other was saved by the Cairn keeper, Morgan Swan, as the Mighty Macs held a 1-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, Cunningham finally broke through and found the back of the net for the fourth time this season. In the 52
nd minute,
Janet Carney sent a pass into the box that deflected off a defender, but Cunningham was there to beat Swan to give the Mighty Macs a 2-0 lead that they would hold onto.
The win moves Immaculata to 3-5-2 in the CSAC and 3-11-2 overall. They jumped Cairn in the conference standings as the Highlanders fell to 3-7.
Goalie
Meghan McCurnin had her second shutout of the season on 4 saves and Immaculata outshot the Highlanders 26-6. Cunningham led the team with 11 shots while Gannon followed with 8.
The Mighty Macs will now look toward their season finale and Senior Day for Cunningham and
Robin Valerio this Saturday at 1 p.m. at Draper Walsh Stadium against Neumann.
