IMMACULATA, Pa.- Mary Beth Plastek provided the sudden-victory goal in the 78th minute, as the Immaculata field hockey team defeated Keystone in overtime 2-1 in its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opener.
Immaculata opened up the scoring in the 23rd minute as Katie Becker netted her first goal of the season. The Mighty Macs would hold their 1-0 lead until the 42nd minute when Keystone's Hope Krolewski'S tally knotted the game at 1-all. Neither team could find the back of the cage for the remainder of regulation, sending the game into overtime.
Mary Beth Plastek snuck the game-winning goal past Keystone's goalkeeper seven minutes into the overtime stanza to seal the win for Immaculata.
Immaculata out-shot Keystone 12-11 and the Giants controlled the corners with 18 penalty corners compared to the Mighty Macs' 13.
Freshman goalkeeper Natalie Slezak totaled eight saves between the pipes, while Keystone goalkeeper Mary Grace Piazza made six saves in the effort.
Immaculata travels to Cabrini on Wednesday afternoon for a CSAC match-up beginning at 3:30 p.m.
