Griffins Spoil Field Hockey Senior Day, 4-2


IMMACULATA, Pa.- Gwynedd-Mercy spoiled Immaculata's senior day as the visiting Griffins stay undefeated in Colonial States Athletic Conference field hockey play with a 4-2 win against the Mighty Macs in the final regular-season tilt.

Mary Beth Plastek started the scoring for Immaculata with an opening goal five minutes into the contest on a pass from Kelly Kugler. The Mighty Macs doubled the lead when Ashley O'Donnell fed  a pass into Katie Becker, who pushed the ball in for the score at the 17:53 mark.

Gwynedd-Mercy (14-4, 7-0 CSAC) cut the margin in half (2-1) just over a minute before halftime as Erin Gorenflo found the back of the cage.

The Griffins opened the second half with two scores from Brooke Stretch in the 37th and 55th minute, taking their first edge in the contest, 3-2. Gwynedd-Mercy would add another goal three minutes from Maria Karidas to solidify its seventh conference win.

Immaculata goalkeeper Britt Worthington made four saves in 58 minutes of play while and Kelly Kruk had three stops in the win for the Griffins.

Immaculata (8-10, 4-3 CSAC) earned the fourth seed in the CSAC Tournament for its fourth straight post-season appearance. The Mighty Macs will face Gwynedd-Mercy, the first seed, on Wednesday Nov. 2 in the CSAC semifinal round.
