BALTIMORE, Md. – Immaculata scored two goals in the first half and added an insurance tally in the second to easily outdistance host College of Notre Dame, 3-0, in a CSAC women's soccer match Wednesday afternoon.
Immaculata (4-5-1, 3-1 CSAC) remains in a tie for third place in the league standings with the win, while College of Notre Dame (4-5-1, 0-1-1) dropped in the standings with the loss.
The Mighty Macs controlled the tempo of the match throughout, peppering College of Notre Dame's goal with 33 shots on the day. Notre Dame's goalkeeper Melinda Daugherty did her best to keep her team in the game, making 16 saves on the afternoon.
Robin Valerio struck first for the Mighty Macs with a goal off a corner kick in the 32nd minute. Erin Lewis, who had assisted on Valerio's initial marker, then doubled the lead three minutes before halftime with a tally of her own. Stefanie Karmondy made it a three-goal lead in the 71st minute, and that was all the Mighty Macs would need.
Jessica Gaburo made five saves in recording her fifth shutout of the season. Immaculata outshot College of Notre Dame, 33-8, and did not give up a corner kick the entire game.
Immaculata returns home Saturday afternoon for a showdown with conference leader Cabrini at Draper Walsh Stadium at 1 p.m.
