Women's Soccer Downed In Opener To Widener

IMMACULATA, Pa.
– Immaculata University's women's soccer team has its season opener spoiled by Widener University on Wednesday afternoon as the visiting Pride took home a 5-0 win against the Mighty Macs.

Widener (1-0) broke the ice in the 32nd minute as Brittany Harvis was fed the ball from Caryinna Yenchak and buried it inside the post. The Pride's second goal came after a penalty kick was awarded. Brittany Balentine took the PK for Widener and converted it for a 2-0 Widener lead in the 43rd minute.

Widener added three tallies in the second half to go on to the 5-0 victory.

The Pride held a 17-5 advantage in shots against the Mighty Macs, and a 3-1 edge in corner opportunities.

Immaculata (0-1) goalkeeper Jessica Gaburo made six saves in the loss, while Widener starting goalie Vanessa Hejnas played the first 86 minutes and made two stops.

Immaculata heads to DeSales on Saturday afternoon for a 1p.m. match against the Bulldogs.
