IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University's field hockey team pressured late, but was unable to overcome visiting Arcadia on Wednesday afternoon as the Knights took a 2-1 win from the Mighty Macs.
Lauren Bigos came out of a scramble in front of the cage and nudged the ball past Arcadia's goalkeeper with just inside 10 minutes to play in the game, cutting the Knights advantage in half (2-1).
Immaculata was awarded three penalty corners during the final five minutes of play, but came up empty as Arcadia's defensive front shut down the Mighty Macs.
Both Arcadia goals came off penalty corners. Ashley McCarthy scored in the 13th minute off the insert from Ashley Ditchey, as the Knights led 1-0 at halftime. Arcadia later scored at the 51:24 mark as Marilyn Beatty deflected McCarthy's shot into the goal to give Arcadia the 2-0 edge.
Both Immaculata goalkeeper Britt Worthington and Arcadia keeper Sarah Baumgardner made three saves.
Immaculata returns to Colonial States Athletic Conference play on Saturday as it hosts Marywood at 11 a.m. at Draper Walsh Stadium.
