Field Hockey Falls Against Gwynedd-Mercy

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - Gwynedd-Mercy's Dottie O'Neil tallied a hat trick to help lift the host Griffins' to a 6-0 Colonial States Athletic Conference win over visiting Immaculata on Saturday afternoon.

Gwynedd-Mercy (5-3, 3-0 CSAC) posted its second-straight conference shutout, while Immaculata's record now dips to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Casey Dellostretto got the scoring started for Gwynedd-Mercy just over four minutes into the game, and Kayla Farrow helped staked the Griffins to a 2-0 lead with her penalty corner goal in the 28th minute. The Griffins then got their string of three-straight tallies from O'Neil, spanning the two halves.

Gwynedd-Mercy tacked one more goal on as Christine Hammitt slipped one past IU keep Jess Jones with 3:09 remaining in the contest.

Britt Worthington started and played the first 59 minutes, allowing five goals and making 14 saves before being lifted for Jones. Kate Eshbach made six saves for Gwynedd-Mercy.

The Griffins' outshot the Mighty Macs, 25-8, and they held an 11-8 lead in penalty corners.

Immaculata next plays Neumann on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 6:30 at Draper Walsh Stadium.
