IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata's field hockey squad began the Colonial States Athletic Conference slate with an 8-1 defeat of the College of Notre Dame Wednesday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium.
The Mighty Macs (2-3, 0-1 CSAC) scored the first three goals before the Gators (1-5, 0-1 CSAC) could get on the board. Kathleen Garrity opened the scoring 15:11 into the contest, and Kelly Kugler added what proved be the game-winner in the 24th minute.
Bridget McMenamin recorded her first collegiate goal with 7:57 remaining in the first half as she tipped in a shot from Garrity. Notre Dame's Caitlan Quinn netted a goal one minute later, and Immaculata led 3-1 at the break.
Immaculata poured on five more goals in the second half as Lauren Beckley and Ali Micheletti each scored twice and Katherine Becker added one goal.
Immaculata's Britt Worthington played the first half allowing one goal. Jess Jones started the second half and made one save. For the Gators, Jessica Maier started and played 43 minutes, allowing four goals and making five saves. Emily Langton played the remaining 27 minutes giving up the Mighty Macs other four goals.
Immaculata continues conference action on Saturday traveling to Gwynedd-Mercy at 3 p.m.
