IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University's field hockey team fell to visiting Swarthmore College, 6-0, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game at Draper Walsh Stadium.
The Garnet (3-3) scored two goals in the first half and tacked on four tallies in the second. Katie Teleky led Swarthmore with two goals on the afternoon, and Sophia Agathis had one goal and two assists.
Immaculata (1-3) was outshot 19-3 by Swarthmore, and the Garnet held a 16-6 advantage in penalty corners. The Mighty Macs had chances on offense but the Garnet's defense played extremely well to shut the Mighty Macs' attack down around the perimeter of the circle.
Britt Worthington started and played the first 59 minutes in goal allowing three goals and making six saves. Jess Jones played the final 11 minutes for the Mighty Macs making one save.
Swarthmore used two goalkeepers as Katie Ashmore started and played the first half, and Gina Grubb started the second half and made one save.
Immaculata opens its Colonial States Athletic Conference season on Wednesday when it hosts the College of Notre Dame at 4 p.m. at Draper Walsh Stadium.
