Gwynedd-Mercy Comes Back To Defeat Immaculata, 6-4

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata field hockey dropped its Colonial States Athletic Conference opener to Gwynedd-Mercy, 6-4, on Wednesday afternoon. The Griffins exploded with four second-half goals to earn the victory.

The score was deadlocked at 2-2 at the half after the Mighty Macs put up the first two goals of the game. Maureen Town scored the first tally at 14:32, and Emily Hallett added the Mighty Macs second goal at 21:24.

The Griffins answered with two goals right before the break as Liz Walton scored on an assist from Victoria Geppert at the 32:50 mark, and Geppert scored with 52 seconds remaining in the stanza on a pass from Kayla Farrow right in front of the goal.

Kathleen Garrity put Immaculata back in the lead in the 43rd minute when she connected on a pass from Anastasia Likanchuk and buried it in the goal. The Griffins tied the score at 3-all just 33 seconds later as Geppert scored the second of her three tallies of the afternoon.

Farrow gave Gwynedd-Mercy its first advantage of the contest when she scored an unassisted goal at 52:44, but it didn't last long. Alyssa Drescher slipped on past the Griffins keeper at 57:57, to knot the score for the final time.

Geppert tallied the game-winner at 59:24 and Casey Dellostretto added an insurance goal in the 66th minute.

Bridget Dougherty started and played 46 in goal for Immaculata, allowing three goals and recording four saves. Brittany Worthington began the second half and saw 24 minutes of action in the cage, making one save and allowing three goals. The Griffins' Ashley McGinty made three saves in the win.

Immaculata travels to Keystone on Saturday, Sept. 27, for a 1 p.m. contest.
