Overtime Tally Lifts Arcadia Past Immaculata, 2-1

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Arcadia's Caroline Champi scored right in front of the cage on a pass from Beth Harris 10 minutes into the overtime period to lift the visiting Knights to a 2-1 overtime field hockey victory over host Immaculata on Saturday afternoon.

Immaculata's Anastasia Likanchuk scored the first goal of the contest unassisted at 34:11 to give the Mighty Macs the advantage at halftime. Immaculata had a chacge earlier in the stanza when the Mighty Macs were awarded a penalty stroke that Maureen Town pushed just wide of the goal.

Arcadia scored in the 60th minute to tie the score, 1-1, in the form of an unassisted shot from Morgan Hasson that beat Mighty Macs' goalkeeper Brittany Worthington for the Knights first tally of the afternoon.

Immaculata (2-3) weathered tremendous pressure from Arcadia (3-5) in the second half. The Knights held an 11-8 advantage in shots and an 8-5 margin on penalty corners in that period alone.

Worthington recorded three saves and allowed both Arcadia goals after coming in at halftime to relieve IU starter Bridget Dougherty. Dougherty played the first 35 minutes making four stops. Arcadia's Brittany Rasmussen went the distance in goal, stopping 13 shots and giving up just one goal.

The field hockey squad begins Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Wednesday, Sept. 24, hosting Gwynedd-Mercy at 4 p.m. at Draper Walsh Stadium.
