POMONA, N.J. – The Immaculata University women's soccer team opened its 2008 slate on Friday night, Aug. 29, at the Stockton Classic dropping a 7-0 decision to host Stockton.
“I was pleased with how we played even thought we didn't get the win,” said head coach Fran Tacconelli. “There were a lot of positive things we can take away from tonight and build on.”
The Ospreys scored two goals 3:07 apart in the first half and then added five more tallies in the second half for the 7-0 victory.
Immaculata starting keeper Jessica Gaburo made four saves in 70 minutes before giving way to Alysia Remaley who notched three saves for the Mighty Macs.
Immaculata junior Shana Kehoe notched her 40 consecutive start in tonight's match, making her starting string one of the longest in Mighty Macs women's soccer history.
Laura O'Shea led the Ospreys with two goals and two assists while Courtney Dougherty tallied a goal and an assist. Stockton goalie Alex Rogers made two saves in 75 minutes, while played the final 15 minutes without facing a shot to complete the combined shutout.
The Ospreys, who reached the NCAA Tournament last season, begin the 2008 season 1-0, while the Mighty Macs are now 0-1.
Immaculata continues action at the Stockton Classic tomorrow, Aug. 30, facing Rowan, another NCAA Tournament participant from a season ago, at 3 p.m.
