PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Immaculata University men's tennis team fell to Chestnut Hill College, 9-0, on Thursday afternoon.
Immaculata is now 0-7 this season and Chestnut Hill improved to 7-6.
Immaculata pushed the No. 5 and 6 singles matches to third sets, as Brett Bickhardt and Andre Brooks won their first sets of the year, and forced the Griffins to rally for the sweep. At the No. 5 spot, Bickhardt won the opening set 6-3, but Kyle DeRiemer won the next set 6-3 to force the tiebreaker, which DeRiemer won 10-6.
Brooks won his opening set from Reese Brown 6-1, but Brown rallied for the 6-3, 10-3 win in the closing sets.
The Mighty Macs fell in the remaining singles matches. Carson Richter topped Bobby DeYoung 6-1, 6-0 in the top singles flight. At the No. 2 position, Cordell Fantroy was shut out by Shane Lesher 6-0, 6-0. Dave Harlan and Michael Pancoast fell at the No. 3 and 4 singles, respectively, by scores of 6-0, 6-1.
Immaculata came the closest to recording a point at No. 3 doubles, however, Chestnut Hill's DeRiemer and Mike Maccherone took an 8-5 victory from Bickhardt and Fantroy.
The men's tennis team hosts Gwynedd-Mercy College on Friday, April 11, in a 3:00 p.m. match.
