ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Immaculata University men's tennis team opened the 2026-27 season on Saturday afternoon, falling to Eastern University by a 4-1 final score.
The Mighty Macs begin the season 0-1, while the Eagles improve to 1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Eastern opened the match by claiming both completed doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead.
- At No. 1 doubles, Jared Groff and Gary Gruici defeated Immaculata's Easton Ragno and Mike DeMattei, 6-1.
- Jared Vitz and Zachary Sprung earned a 6-1 victory over Dalton Spencer and Aiden Gall at No. 2 doubles.
- The No. 3 doubles match went unfinished.
- Immaculata got on the board at No. 1 singles as Easton Ragno earned a hard-fought victory over Jared Groff. Ragno won the opening set 7-5 before Groff answered with a 6-4 second-set victory, but Ragno prevailed 10-7 in the third-set super tiebreak.
- Eastern answered at No. 2 singles, where Gary Gruici defeated Mike DeMattei, 6-2, 6-2.
- Jared Vitz then defeated Dalton Spencer at No. 3 singles, 7-6, 7-2, 6-2.
- Zachary Sprung secured the match for Eastern with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Aiden Gall at No. 4 singles.
- The No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches were not played.

- Easton Ragno earned Immaculata's lone point with his three-set victory at No. 1 singles.
- Ragno battled back from a second-set loss to claim the third-set super tiebreak, 10-7.
- Immaculata's No. 1 doubles team of Ragno and DeMattei fell 6-1.
- Dalton Spencer and Aiden Gall also dropped their No. 2 doubles match by a 6-1 score.
