HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - Centenary scored the game's lone goal in the 20th minute and the Lady Cyclones went on to advanace to CSAC semifinals with a 1-0 victory against Immaculata on Monday afternoon.
Immaculata ends the 2008 season with an 8-9-2 overall record and 6-4 mark in the CSAC, advancing to the conference tournament for the first time in program history. Centenary improved to 9-8-2 overall and will take on Gwynedd-Mercy in the CSAC semifinals on Wednesday.
The Lady Cyclones jumped infront early when Kiti Ovaskainen found Jen Dexter 20 minutes into the opening half to the 1-0 lead. For the remainder of the first half, the two teams traded opportunities with the two keepers combining for five saves.
In the second half, it was the Mighty Macs who the slight 6-5 advantage in shots, but were unable to find the back of the net. The biggest play of the game, however, came with just over six minutes remaining as Immaculata's Anne Marie Popgoshev took the ball into the Centenary defensive third with what appeared to be the game tying goal. But, just before the ball could cross the goal-line, Centenary defender Lauren Loe came sliding through and kicked the ball away preserving the one-goal cushion and ultimately the win.
Immaculata goalkeeper Jessica Gaburo made three saves while Centenary keeper Ashley Denti made five stops to record the shutout.
