Centenary Edges Women's Soccer, 2-1

IMMACULATA, Pa.
- Centenary edged Immaculata's women's soccer team, 2-1, in the regular-season finale for both squads on Saturday afternoon at Draper Walsh Stadium.

Immaculata concludes the regular season with an 8-8-2 overall and 6-4 mark in the Colonial States Athletic Conference while Centenary finishes with an 8-8-2 overall and 7-2-1 CSAC record. Both the Mighty Macs and Cyclones have qualified for the CSAC Tournament.

Immaculata took the early lead at Jennifer Steinke put the Mighty Macs on the board 19:52 into the contest on an unassisted goal. However, the Cyclones would score in the 32nd minute as Brittany Overland scored on a pass from Sam Vanni to tie the score at 1-1.

The contest would remained tied at the half. It was an evenly played opening period as Centenary held just a 6-5 advantage on shots and both teams had one corner kick.

The contest remained a stalemate until the 74th minute when Vanni connected with Overland again to put the Cyclones ahead, 2-1, and the match would end that way.

The Mighty Macs had many chances in the second half, out-shooting the Cyclones 10-2.

Immaculata's Jessica Gaburo made four saves during the afternoon and Centenary goalkeeper Ashley Denti made six stops overall, including five during the second half barrage.

Immaculata and Centenary will meet again on Monday, Nov. 3, in the CSAC Tournament quarterfinals. The Cyclones earned the No. 3 seed while the Mighty Macs were slotted sixth. Game time in Hackettstown, N.J. is set for 1 p.m.
