IMMACULATA, Pa. – DeSales scored five goals in the first half, and the visiting Bulldogs went on to a 5-2 victory over host Immaculata in non-conference field hockey action at Draper Walsh Stadium on Thursday.
Kelsey Strowhouer scored the game's first goal for DeSales just 6:22 into the contest. Jamie Matthews then added another tally at 11:26, assisted by Catherine McGrillen, and the Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead when McGrillen scored a marker 18:27 into the contest on a pass from Matthews.
Keri Falcicchio tipped in a goal off a defensive save by Kristen Yoder at 26:12 to make the score 4-0, and McGrillen added her second goal of the afternoon just under three minutes to go before intermission.
Immaculata (3-7) finally got on the scoreboard as Emily Hallett scored an unassisted goal at the 49:58 mark, and Alyssa Guarini tallied her first goal of the season on a pass from Kathleen Garrity in the 69th minute.
Immaculata replaced starting goalkeeper Brittany Worthington 18 minutes into the game with Bridget Dougherty. Worthington allowed three goal and registered two saves. Dougherty played the remaining 53 minutes, allowing DeSales' final two tallies and making one stop.
Jen Bessinger went the full 70 minutes in the cage for DeSales, registering two saves and allowing the two Immaculata goals.
DeSales (6-7) controlled much of the play, outshooting Immaculata by a 13-5 margin.
The Mighty Macs return to Draper Walsh Stadium on Saturday for a Colonial States Athletic Conference tilt versus Marywood at 11 a.m.
