SCRANTON, Pa. – Immaculata's Anne Marie Popgoshev lifted the Mighty Macs women's soccer team to the 1-0 upset of Marywood on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference action.
Popgoshev took advantage of the sloppy field conditions and slotted a ball through Marywood goalkeeper Meghan Coyle's legs in the 66th minute of play as the visiting Mighty Macs upset Marywood.
The Mighty Macs won their fifth straight game, improving their overall record to 7-7-2 and their CSAC mark to 5-3. It was the first CSAC loss of the season for the Pacers, who are now 11-4-1 overall and 8-1 in the league.
Popgoshev's goal came as she took a through ball, dribbled past a defender and slotted the ball which found its way to the back of the net. From there, stellar play by goaltender Jessica Gaburo secured the victory for the Mighty Macs.
Gaburo made seven saves, including several from point-blank range, to keep the Pacers off the board. Marywood's Coyle made two saves in the losing effort.
Immaculata returns home for its final two games of the regular season. The Mighty Macs host Centenary on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 4 p.m. at Draper Walsh Stadium.
