Freshman Stefanie Karmondy scored the game-winning goal as the Immaculata University women's soccer team defeated Bryn Mawr College 3-2 on Saturday, September 1, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.
Karmondy's goal, off a pass from sophomore Christina Guerrieri, at 80:15 broke a 2-2 tie and propelled the Mighty Macs to the Bryn Mawr College Invitational Championship match. The match will be held on Sunday, September 2, at 2:30 pm.
Immaculata scored the first goal of the season, for both squads, as freshman Erica Lyons, one of eight who started for the Mighty Macs, scored off an assist from fellow freshman Colleen Jennings.
The Owls bounced back and tied the game at 1-1 with a goal by Wallis Romzek from Kat Wing at 20:28. Bryn Mawr took a 2-1 lead into intermission when Emily Wiseman tallied an unassisted goal at 26:14. Immaculata was able to tie the game at 2-2 when Guerrieri found back the back of the net at 72:53. Lyons assisted on that goal.
Freshman Jessica Gaburo recorded eight saves on her way to her first win of the season, while Collette Pullion registered 11 saves between the pipes for the Owls.
The Mighty Macs will face the winner Goucher College in the championship.
