Donna Smith enters her fifth season at the helm of the Immaculata University volleyball program in 2013.
Smith has guided two Immaculata volleyball players to all-conference recognition while her teams have earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award during all four years.
Smith's 2012 team finished second in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) in blocks, averaging 1.52 blocks per set, as Allison Lang totaled 88 blocks for the Mighty Macs during the season. Immaculata also had two players ranked third in two CSAC statistical categories is Stephanie Johler averaged 0.68 service aces and Brooke Schreffler made 4.58 digs per set.
Smith guided the squad to a .500 record (11-11) for the first time during her tenure as the head coach in 2011. She also mentored her second all-league selection, as Tamara Dabady earned All-CSAC honorable mention accolades.
During her second season with Immaculata, Smith brought in a talented group of young players, including Brooke Schreffler who was fifth in the Colonial States Athletic Conference in digs per set (4.51).
In her first season guiding the Mighty Macs, Smith coached Jayme Lenosky to honorable mention all-league honors. Lenosky was also honored by the Philadelphia Inquirer on its academic all-area team.
Smith had spent the past five seasons as the girl’s varsity head coach at Avon Grove High School, in nearby West Grove, Pa. In both 2007 and 2008, the team reached the State High School Tournament, placing eighth in the state in 2007 and finishing third in the state in 2008. Since Smith took over the program in 2004, Avon Grove has had a winning record in all five seasons under her guidance. In 2005, 2006 and 2008, Smith was named the Daily Local Coach of the Year. She was also selected by her peers as the 2008 and 2009 Avon Grove High School Coach of the Year.
She has coached several USAV clubs in the area, including the Liberty Belles, ETC Elite, Club Delaware and Synergy. In addition to coaching, she was also the director of the ETC Elite Volleyball Club, and is currently the director of operations for the Synergy Volleyball Club.
Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Delaware in 1983. She was a four-year member of the Blue Hens volleyball team and served as captain her final season. She was selected as the team's MVP in both 1981 and 1982. Smith finished her career with 1,185 kills, and has the highest single-season hitting percentage mark at .431.
Smith is still an active player competing at USAV nationals and senior nationals.
