2023-24 Women's Basketball Roster
Biography
In a signing ceremony at Alumnae Hall on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, nine-year-old Ali Gilbert became a member of the Immaculata University women's basketball team, when she signed her letter of intent.
Through the help of Team Impact, a non-profit organization that matches children who have been diagnosed with life-altering conditions with a local collegiate team. Ali was matched with the Immaculata's women’s basketball team last year after she was diagnosed with leukemia.
Ali, accompanied by her parents and her younger sister arrived for the signing ceremony to find Alumnae Hall full. As Ali signed her letter of intent, confetti filled the gym. Following her signing Ali was congratulated by members of Immaculata’s men’s basketball team and other members of the Immaculata community including President Barbara Lettiere.
Following a pro-style photoshoot, Ali joined the Mighty Macs team in the women’s locker room where she was presented her official locker, her #24 jersey, and other gifts from the team. Ali, her family, and the team then enjoyed pizza and cupcakes, before joining the team for a shoot around where Ali showed some great moves and smiles on the court.
Since Ali was first matched with the Mighty Macs by Team Impact over a year ago, they have become remarkably close. Ali has participated with the team in an Easter egg hunt, visited a pumpkin patch, and the team attended Ali’s end-of-treatment party this past October. Ali also attended the Mighty Macs girls summer basketball camp in addition to attending Immaculata’s annual Block Party and multiple team practices.
Head Coach Chrissy Rhine stated having Ali as part of the team provides a perspective outside of sports, which contributes to the players development as student athletes. “Ali brings out the best in our players and coaches,” said Rhine. “We strive to emulate her strength, determination and courage every day.”
“This event celebrated Ali and her heroic battle with cancer” stated team captain Erin Kelly ’23 at the signing event. Kelly then addressed the Mighty Macs newest team member “Ali, we are super proud of you and today we celebrate your courage, determination, and resilience. We welcome you and your family with open arms to our program and we could not be happier to share this experience with you.”
