Adrian Cox

Immaculata University Director of Athletics Patricia Canterino announced the hiring of Adrian Cox as the Mighty Macs’ head men’s soccer coach in January 2010.

Cox brings 10 years of soccer coaching experience to Immaculata, including five years as an assistant coach at the NCAA Division I level, as well as high school and club coaching expertise.

Cox joins the Mighty Macs having spent the last five seasons as the varsity boy’s soccer head coach at The Episcopal Academy in Newtown Square, Pa. During that stint at Episcopal Academy, Cox compiled a mark of 59-37-14 and saw eight of his players go on to play collegiately.

In addition to his responsibilities at Episcopal Academy, he joined the club FC DELCO as a member of its coaching staff, coaching the FC DELCO Hammerheads from 2004-08. During his tenure with FC DELCO, he helped the Hammerheads win numerous youth national tournaments, two Region I Premier League championships, three EPYSA state club championships, three USYSA regional championships and to three USYSA national final fours.

Cox is currently the head coach of the Penn Fusion Soccer Academy Under-14 Boys squad. He also assists YSC Sports with the training of elite youth players involved in Major League Soccer’s Philadelphia Union Juniors Training Program.

He formerly was a member of the coaching staff at Lower Merion Soccer Club. Cox had coached at LMSC since 2004 and was the head coach of the Under-13 Lightning from 2005-09.

Cox began his coaching career at the collegiate level as a graduate assistant men’s soccer coach at Drury University in Springfield, Mo., from 1999-2000. The Panthers had a 17-21-0 overall record during his two seasons. Drury also received the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award in 2000.

Cox then became the assistant men’s soccer coach at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., from 2001-03. During his three seasons with the Braves, they reached the NCAA Tournament in 2002, and were nationally ranked in the Top 25 seven times throughout the season, ranking as high at 10th. While at Bradley, Cox coached several players who went on to professional careers in Major League Soccer (MLS).

A native of Havertown, Pa., Cox grew up playing elite youth club soccer for FC DELCO, EPYSA Olympic Development Program (ODP) and the Region I ODP Select Program. After graduating from Haverford High School, he went on to play soccer at the University of Richmond. During his four years, the Spiders won the Colonial Athletic Association championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 1998.

Cox graduated from the University of Richmond in 1999 with a bachelor’s in Leadership Studies and Sport Management. He later received a Master of Education degree from Drury University in 2001, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude.

Cox is an active member of both the NSCAA and US Soccer Coaches organization. He received the NSCAA Premier Coach Diploma in 2009 at Stanford University.

Cox and his wife, Jackie, the head field hockey coach at Haverford, were married in June 2010 and reside in Wynnewood, Pa.
