IMMACULATA, Pa. - It was a busy opening week of the 2026-27 athletic year for the Mighty Macs, with six teams competing across campus and throughout the region. Now, Immaculata Athletics looks ahead to another action-packed week featuring nine contests across four sports, including a busy Wednesday with a doubleheader at Draper Walsh Stadium and a volleyball match in Alumnae Hall.

THE WEEK IN REVIEW
The Mighty Macs opened the 2026-27 athletic year with plenty of highlights, including a pair of undefeated starts.
Field Hockey Starts 2-0
The Immaculata field hockey team opened its 2026 season with back-to-back wins, earning a thrilling 2-1 double-overtime win over FDU-Florham in their home opener before blanking King's College 3-0 on the road on Saturday.
Against Florham,
Morgan Barnes opened the scoring with 0:38 remaining in the first quarter to give Immaculata a 1-0 lead. FDU-Florham tied the score early in the fourth quarter. Immaculata dominated the remainder of the regulation and the first overtime period but could not put the ball past the FDU-Florham goalie. Early in the second overtime,
Maria Freeman, following the penalty corner insert, got the ball back from
Alexa Marczak and hit the ball towards the crease;
Alexis Andrada redirected the ball into the cage to score the game-winning goal, lifting the Macs to a 2-1 victory.
Mackenzie Schrack made five saves in goal.
Against King's,
Morgan Barnes, Alexis Andrada and Gigi Fox each found the back of the cage as the Mighty Macs limited the Monarchs to just seven shots, earning the 3-0 road win. Andrada's goal also marked the 50th point of her Immaculata career. Schrack made three saves in goal to earn her fourth career shutout.
Volleyball Goes 2-2
Immaculata women's volleyball opened the 2026 season with a 3-1 victory at Delaware Valley before competing at the DeSales Invitational.
The Mighty Macs dropped a hard-fought 3-0 decision to Rutgers-Camden on Friday before falling 3-0 to host DeSales on Saturday morning. Immaculata bounced back in a big way Saturday afternoon, sweeping Penn College 3-0 to finish the opening weekend 2-2.
First-year
Madi Kyle made an immediate impact with 10 kills in her collegiate debut, while
Angelica Santini Bulerin recorded a double-double with 11 assists and 14 digs against Delaware Valley.
Adriana Ventura anchored the back row with 15 digs in the opener and added 10 digs against Rutgers-Camden, while first-year
Tara Hirschtritt closed the weekend with a team-high 12 kills in the sweep of Penn College.
Women's Soccer Opens Season
After the Immaculata women's soccer team had its Tuesday opener against Rutgers-Newark postponed because of severe weather, the team opened its season Thursday at Draper Walsh Stadium against Stockton.
The Ospreys earned a 2-0 victory, with the Mighty Macs holding Stockton scoreless throughout the second half. Immaculata battled hard throughout the game and nearly got on the board in the 64
th minute when Gracie Repichi's shot had the keeper beat, but it caught the right post.
The highlight of the game came in the 57th minute, when Immaculata goalkeeper
Addi Husenica saved an Osprey penalty kick to keep the score 2-0. Husenica's penalty kick save was the first by an IU goalkeeper since Brooke Shissler last saved one vs Eastern on August 31, 2019.
Men's Soccer Battles Through Opening Week
The Immaculata men's soccer team opened the season against Haverford before traveling to Elizabethtown on Friday.
After falling 3-0 to Haverford, the Mighty Macs came out strong early in the second, cutting a two-goal halftime deficit to 2-1 against Elizabethtown before the Blue Jays added two second-half goals in a 4-1 decision.
Brady Derkosh scored Immaculata's first goal of the season. The goal was Derkosh's first collegiate goal.
Immaculata battled hard through both matches against strong teams. The Mighty Macs will look to bounce back against longtime rival Neumann on Wednesday at Draper Walsh Stadium.
Men's and Women's Cross Country Hits the Course
Both Immaculata men's and women's cross country opened their 2026 campaigns Saturday at the Bryn Mawr Invitational at Rose Tree Park in Media, with both teams earning top four finishes.
The women's team placed third out of six teams with 75 points, led by an outstanding individual victory from senior
Aubrey Donahue, who won the 5K in 20:13.0.
Jacquie Leone added an 11th-place finish in 22:43.7, while
Breanne Dymek was 19th in 23:26.9.
The men's team finished fourth out of six teams with 101 points. Freshmen
Declan McGorry and
Oliver Leader led the way in their collegiate debuts, finishing 24th (18:55.7) and 27th (19:10.8), respectively.
Jackie Webb was Immaculata's third finisher in 35th place with a time of 20:24.8.
Both teams return to action Saturday, September 12, at the Philly Cross Classic at the Belmont Plataeu.
Mighty Mac of the Week
Morgan Barnes of the Immaculata Field Hockey Team is our first Mighty Mac of the Week for the 2026-27 Season!
Barnes helped the Mighty Macs open the 2026 season with a perfect 2-0 record, scoring in each of Immaculata's first two victories. Barnes recorded two goals on six shots, all on goal, including the game-winning goal in Saturday's 3-0 shutout victory at King's College. She scored the first goal in Immaculata's season-opening win over FDU-Florham and finished the opening week with a perfect 1.000 shots-on-goal percentage.
This is Barnes's first time being named Mighty Mac of the Week.
Top Performers
🏑 Alexis Andrada — Field Hockey
Andrada opened the season with a pair of goals, including the double-overtime game-winner against FDU-Florham, before scoring again in Saturday's 3-0 win at King's. Her goal against King's was the 50th point of her Immaculata career, moving her into fifth place all-time in program history.
🏐 Adriana Ventura — Women's Volleyball
Ventura helped lead Immaculata to a 2-2 opening week, highlighted by the Mighty Macs' 3-1 victory at Delaware Valley and a 3-0 sweep of Penn College to close the DeSales Invitational. Through four matches she had 42 digs, 20 assists, and 10 service aces.
🏃 Aubrey Donahue — Women's Cross Country
Donahue impressively opened the season, winning the Bryn Mawr Invitational 5K in
20:13.0 to lead the Mighty Macs to a third-place team finish.
⚽ Brady Derkosh — Men's Soccer
Freshman
Brady Derkosh scored his first collegiate goal at Elizabethtown, finishing the night with three shots on goal to lead the Mighty Macs offensively.
🧤 Addi Husenica — Women's Soccer
Husenica made an immediate impact in her season debut, recording three saves in the second half against Stockton and stopping a penalty kick to keep the Mighty Macs within striking distance.
