Men's Soccer Falls at Elizabethtown, 4-1

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — The Immaculata University men's soccer team (0-2-0) battled back from a two-goal halftime deficit, but Elizabethtown College (1-1-0) scored twice in the second half to secure a 4-1 victory over the Mighty Macs on Friday evening at Jane Hoover Field at Elizabethtown High School.
 
Brady Derkosh scored the lone goal for the Mighty Macs.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED VS ELIZABETHTOWN
  • Elizabethtown struck first in the seventh minute when Caba Alvarez found the back of the net at 6:36 to give the Blue Jays an early 1-0 advantage.
  • The Mighty Macs continued to create opportunities throughout the opening half, with Milan Kosiba putting three shots on goal and Brady Derkosh adding two shots on target. Elizabethtown goalkeeper Logan Sumner made three saves in the opening 45 minutes to keep Immaculata off the scoreboard.
  • The Blue Jays doubled their lead just before halftime when Chase Ballinger scored at 42:31 off an assist from Cam Paris, sending Elizabethtown into the break with a 2-0 advantage.
  • Immaculata responded quickly after halftime. Just 2:46 into the second half, Derkosh cut the deficit in half when he scored his first goal of the season at 47:46. The freshman forward's goal came unassisted and made the score 2-1.
  • The Mighty Macs continued to pressure the Blue Jays, with Carlos Cano, Matthew Skipper, and Kosiba recording chances early in the second half. Sumner turned aside shots from Cano and Kosiba to preserve the Elizabethtown lead.
  • Elizabethtown added goals in the 71st minute (Manny Velazquez) and the 86th minute (Will Withall) on their way to closing out the 4-1 win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Immaculata finished the evening with 12 shots, including eight on target, while Elizabethtown recorded 26 shots with 12 on goal.
  • The Mighty Macs held an 8-7 advantage in corner kicks and had seven shots saved by Sumner.
  • Derkosh led Immaculata offensively with three shots on target and scored his first collegiate goal.
  • Kosiba finished with four shots, including two on goal.
  • Jordan Brown added two shots on target.
  • Luca Greppellini made seven saves while allowing two goals in 42:31 of action before Matteo Paolillo played the final 47:29 and made one save.
