IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata University field hockey team thrillingly opened its 2026 season on Wednesday evening, earning a dramatic 2-1 double-overtime victory over FDU-Florham at Draper Walsh Stadium.
Alexis Andrada scored the overtime winner 1:15 into the second overtime period to lift the Mighty Macs to victory.
The Mighty Macs improve to 1-0 on the season, while the Devils fall to 0-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED VS FDU-FLORHAM
- After a scoreless opening 14 minutes, Immaculata broke through with just 38 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Sophomore Morgan Barnes found the back of the cage for her first goal of the season, putting the Mighty Macs ahead 1-0. Barnes' goal came after her initial shot was saved by the FDU-Florham goalkeeper.
- FDU-Florham applied pressure throughout the second and third quarters, but Immaculata goalkeeper Mackenzie Schrack kept the Devils off the scoreboard. Schrack made four saves during the opening three quarters, including three in the second quarter.
- The Devils eventually pulled even just 20 seconds into the fourth quarter when Emma Dombrowski converted a pass to make it a 1-1 contest.
- Immaculata generated several opportunities late in regulation, including a stretch of four penalty corners in the fourth quarter, but keeper Adrianna Goodwin turned aside the Mighty Macs' chances to send the game to overtime.
- The Mighty Macs controlled the action in the first overtime period, recording five shots, all of which were turned aside by Goodwin. Immaculata continued to pressure the Devils into the second overtime.
- Early in the second overtime, Immaculata earned consecutive penalty corners. After Goodwin stopped an initial shot from Alexis Andrada, the Mighty Macs earned another opportunity.
- After inserting the corner, Maria Freeman got the ball and found Andrada, who deflected the ball into the cage to lift Immaculata to victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Mackenzie Schrack was outstanding in goal for the Mighty Macs, finishing with five saves to earn the victory.
- Alexis Andrada had a team-high six shots, including five on goal, and registered her eighth career game-winning goal.
- Morgan Barnes scored the Mighty Macs first goal of 2026.
- Alexa Marczak generate four shots, with two shots on goal.
- Maria Freeman, who assisted on the game-winning goal, anchored the Mighty Macs defense, helping limit the Devils to only six shots on goal.
- Immaculata finished the night with a 16-10 advantage in shots, and each team had nine penalty corners.
