Softball Earns Split in Doubleheader at Wilkes on Tuesday

WILKES-BARRE, Pa.- The Immaculata softball team earned a non-conference doubleheader split at Wilkes University on Tuesday afternoon. Immaculata earned the win in game one 2-0, before falling 7-2 in game two.
 
Madison Formica led Immaculata, going a combined 6-for-7 at the plate, with an RBI. Nadia Bhuiyan earned the win in game one with a complete game, six-hit shutout.
 
Immaculata moves to 11-21 overall and 4-6 in Atlantic East Conference play, while Wilkes moves to 18-14 overall and 6-6 in Landmark Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST WILKES IN GAME ONE
  • Immaculata rode a dominant performance in the circle from Nadia Bhuiyan, who tossed a complete-game shutout to secure the win. Bhuiyan scattered six hits and worked around traffic all afternoon, keeping Wilkes off the scoreboard despite multiple baserunners.
  • The Mighty Macs broke through in the sixth inning. Madison Formica got a one-out single before Carlee Karcher delivered the game's biggest swing, driving a double into the gap to plate the first run. Later in the inning, Jamie Green reached on an error that allowed a second run to cross, giving Immaculata all the support it would need.
  • Bhuiyan finished off the Colonels, retiring them in order in the seventh to earn the complete game shutout.

  • Immaculata found early success in game two, taking a 2-0 lead midway through the contest.
  • Alexis Andrada opened the scoring with a solo home run to center field in the fourth inning, and Madison Formica added an RBI single in the fifth to extend the advantage to 2-0.
  • Wilkes responded with a decisive rally in the bottom half of the fifth, capitalizing on timely hits and defensive miscues to plate four runs and take the lead. The hosts added three more runs in the sixth to create separation.

  • Formica paced the Mighty Macs offensively once again, finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Andrada added two hits and a home run.
  • Despite collecting nine hits as a team, Immaculata was unable to regain momentum after Wilkes' big inning.
