Softball Falls in Non-Conference Doubleheader with Penn State Brandywine

UPPER CHICHESTER, Pa.- The Immaculata softball team dropped both games of its non-conference doubleheader at Penn State Brandywine on Monday afternoon. Immaculata fell 3-1 in game one, before falling 10-2 (5 Innings) in game two.
 
Immaculata falls to 10-20 overall, and they are 4-6 in Atlantic East Conference play, while Penn State Brandywine improves to 25-7 overall, and they are 12-0 in United East Conference play.
 
Game One: Penn State Brandywine 3, Immaculata 1
 
Immaculata dropped a tightly contested first game of today's non-conference doubleheader, falling 3–1 to Penn State Brandywine softball at Maple Zone.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST PSU BRANDYWINE IN GAME ONE
  • The Mighty Macs were locked in a scoreless duel early behind starter Nadia Bhuiyan, who worked efficiently through the first three innings.
  • Immaculata broke through in the fourth, manufacturing a run with aggressive baserunning. Madison Formica reached on a walk, swiped second, and later came home on a double steal to give the Macs a 1–0 advantage.
  • The lead was short-lived, however, as Penn State Brandywine responded in the bottom half of the inning. A two-run home run highlighted a three-run frame that proved to be the difference.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS IN GAME ONE
  • Bhuiyan settled back in after the fourth and completed 6.0 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits.
  • Immaculata defense backed her with a clean effort, committing no errors on the afternoon.
  • Carlee Karcher paced the lineup with a 2-for-3 performance.
  • Alexis Andrada added a double.
 
Game Two: Penn State Brandywine 10, Immaculata 2 (5 Innings)
 
Immaculata closed out its doubleheader on Monday afternoon, falling to PSU Brandywine 10-2, in five innings.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST PSU BRANDYWINE IN GAME TWO
  • PSU Brandywine got off to a fast start, scoring four runs in the opening inning, and added three more runs in the second inning to take a 7-0 advantage.
  • Immaculata showed resilience in the fourth inning, capitalizing on a defensive miscue to get on the board. Jamie Green sparked the rally with a single before Emma Pinto scored on an error to cut into the deficit. Naila Valdez followed with an RBI single up the middle, bringing home the Macs' second run of the frame.
  • However, PSU Brandywine answered back in the fifth with three more runs to enforce the run rule margin.
