IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata men's volleyball nearly forced a fifth set in their Thursday evening United East Conference playoff match against the Gallaudet University Bison, but the Bison won 3-1.
The Mighty Macs finish with a 6-11 record. They were 5-3 in UEC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST GALLAUDET
- The match was tightly contested in the initial rallies. Immaculata took a two-point lead after back-to-back kills from Jordan Brown and Noah Zunski. A 5-1 Mighty Macs run increased the lead before Gallaudet cut into it with four of their own points. The two sides tied multiple times in the waning moments, and the Bison gained the advantage 24-23. However, Immaculata pounced on consecutive Gallaudet errors. A Josh McGurl kill won the set in "overtime," 26-24.
- A 5-1 Bison push gave them a four-point cushion. Despite trailing the visitors, Immaculata used timely momentum to stay close. Although the Mighty Macs would pull to within three on a Christian Lee kill, two more Bison points gave them a 25-20 victory.
- Immaculata had early momentum with a mix of kills and Gallaudet errors. Despite possessing an 8-4 lead over the visitors, the Bison stormed back with a 10-1 outburst to go up by five. Nate Bailey, Luke Dortenzo, and McGurl each saw a kill to trim the deficit, but Gallaudet took set three 25-17.
- Six of the first seven points of set four went Gallaudet's way, but seven of the next eight went Immaculata's. Both teams went back and forth with their offensive drives, and a McGurl kill tied the score at 16. Even with the Mighty Macs tying the score four more times near the end of the set, three straight Gallaudet points closed out the evening. The Bison won 25-22, and the match 3-1.
