LePage, DeSarno Propel Baseball to Sweep over Saint Elizabeth Eagles

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata baseball outscored the Saint Elizabeth University Eagles on Saturday 23-4 in a conference doubleheader. The Mighty Macs won Game 1 13-0 and Game 2 10-4.

The Mighty Macs are 13-16 for the season. They are 8-4 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST SAINT ELIZABETH – GAME 1
  • Both team's defenses were on display in the opening innings. Alex LePage dealt four strikeouts across the first two frames. It was not until the third inning where the scoreless tie was broken. The Mighty Macs' offense detonated with eight runs. Following a Robert Woodward RBI single that made the game 4-0, Josh Goulburn's bases-clearing triple extended the lead to seven. A JT Luther RBI walk was the final score of the inning. Immaculata was up 8-0 through three.
  • The Mighty Macs scored on four consecutive batters in the bottom of the fourth. A Danny Nocito two-RBI single bumped the lead to 11. Meanwhile, LePage logged three strikeouts each in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, as the Eagles had no answers. Trevor Robbins subbed in for LePage in the top of the seventh, and it only took four batters to end the game. A groundout retired the side for the Eagles, as the Mighty Macs took Game 1 13-0.

  • Nocito, Nick Turnage, and Ryan Nace logged two hits apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST SAINT ELIZABETH – GAME 2
  • The Eagles jumped out to the early advantage with a runner stealing home in the first. A Turnage RBI single and a Woodward RBI double, though, put the Mighty Macs back in front. • Thomas DeSarno recorded back-to-back swinging strikeouts on Saint Elizabeth's offense before the Immaculata offense went to work in the bottom of the fourth. Two Saint Elizabeth errors allowed two of the three runs to score. Immaculata's defense continued their day with a double play to retire the top of the fifth. In the bottom of the inning, a Matt Passerini two-run double grew the lead. Despite bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth for Immaculata, Saint Elizabeth ended the inning with a groundout. It was 10-2 through six.
  • The Eagles got two runs back in the seventh to trim the deficit to six. Sal Marziani replaced DeSarno in the eighth and logged three outs in four batters.
