MORRISTOWN, N.J. – Immaculata baseball scored first on Friday and never looked back in a dominant performance against the Saint Elizabeth University Eagles. The final was 22-1 in seven innings.
The Mighty Macs are 11-16 for the season. They are 6-4 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST SAINT ELIZABETH
- The Mighty Macs set the tone in the first inning, scoring on six consecutive batters. A Nick Turnage two-RBI double did the most damage. The two teams traded runs in the second inning, which would be Saint Elizabeth's only one of the afternoon. The scores kept coming for Immaculata in the third. Two consecutive scores came on an RBI hit-by-pitch and a wild pitch. During the third inning, the game was temporarily delayed due to rain. John Fitzpatrick subbed in to pitch in the bottom of third and immediately retired three batters. It was 11-1 after three.
- The top of the fourth was another batch of offensive firepower consisting of seven runs. The Mighty Macs wasted no time in loading the bases and increasing their advantage. After a Josh Goulburn RBI single, the score was 18-1. Both defenses kept the offenses in check until the top of the sixth, where Justin Hoffmann reached home on an infield throwing error. Hoffmann would cap off the day with a three-run home run in the seventh for Immaculata to surpass 20 runs. Fitzpatrick logged two strikeouts in the bottom of the seventh, with a groundout being the last play, as Immaculata took Game 1 of the series 22-1.
