IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata baseball played a four-hour marathon on Tuesday against the TCNJ Lions, a contest in which offense was not lacking. However, the Lions claimed a 25-17 victory.
The Mighty Macs are 10-16 for the season. They are 5-4 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST TCNJ
- The Mighty Macs' defense made a statement in the first inning with a double play to retire the side. Matt Passerini got the day started with a score on a passed ball. The Lions countered in the top of the second with an RBI single. While the Mighty Macs earned two scores via Passerini and Joey Mozzone in the second, a six-run third inning provided the visitors with the lead. Luke Baumann and Mozzone pulled Immaculata to two, as TCNJ led 7-5 after three.
- The two sides traded two runs apiece in the fourth. RBI singles by Alex Tronosky and Ryan Frye made the score 9-7. Following a strong seven-run fifth inning from the Lions, Nick Turnage knocked in an RBI to score Joey Ditta. One runner scored in the sixth for both sides. Mozzone hit a double to bring Jacob Kupsey home. It was 17-9 through six.
- TCNJ grounded into a double play in the seventh to set up another Immaculata offensive drive. JT Luther cleared the bases on a double to cut the lead to five. The Mighty Macs came close to tying the game in the eighth. A wild pitch scored Mozzone, while Turnage provided another RBI. Going to the top of the ninth, it was 18-14. TCNJ, though, ended the afternoon in the ninth with another batch of seven runs. Danny Nocito hit a missile to left field to log three RBIs in the bottom of the inning, but TCNJ won 25-17.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS – GAME 1
- Tronosky, Kupsey, Baumann, and Mozzone each had two runs.
- Turnage logged four hits in six at-bats.
- Nocito and Luther put up three RBIs each off the bench.
- Trevor Robbins went 2.1 innings on the mound and faced 14 batters.
