ASTON, Pa. – Immaculata baseball earned a doubleheader split with the Neumann University Knights on Saturday, but the Mighty Macs won the weekend series 2-1. Game 1 was 16-1 Immaculata in seven innings. Neumann won Game 2 10-7.
The Mighty Macs are 10-15 for the season. They are 5-4 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST NEUMANN – GAME 1
- The Mighty Macs got on the board right away with a Hunter Weitzel double that brought Matt Passerini home. Nick Turnage was hit-by-pitch with two outs, which loaded the bases. Luke Hardnock proceeded to send a missile to left-center field for an inside-the-park grand slam. In the second inning, again with two outs, Ryan Nace knocked in an RBI single. A Passerini sac-fly to score Robert Woodward increased the lead. Even though Neumann put a runner on third in the bottom of the third inning, Thomas DeSarno struck out the next batter swinging. Immaculata was up 7-0 after three.
- The offensive showcase continued in the fourth inning with another batch of five runs. Two-run hits by Woodward and Danny Nocito did the most damage, and Hardnock added an RBI single. The Knights eliminated their drought with a score on a dropped fly ball. The fifth inning saw four more Immaculata runners round home plate on a Turnage RBI single and a Woodward three-run rocket to left-center field. Despite a three-up, three-down inning for the Mighty Macs' offense in the seventh, Neumann's deficit was too great. Immaculata claimed the series win in Game 2, 16-1.
