IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata baseball was defeated by the Swarthmore College Garnet on Wednesday 18-4 in seven innings. Swarthmore is receiving votes in the d3baseball.com top 25 poll.
The Mighty Macs are 6-14 for the season. They are 3-3 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST SWARTHMORE
- The first inning slipped away from the Mighty Macs, as Swarthmore put up 12 runs. Immaculata loaded the bases in the bottom of the first. JT Luther reached on a fielder's choice to score Logan Barndt. Frankie McCartney, on the hill, retired three straight batters in the top of the third. The two sides traded runs in the bottom of the third and top of the fourth. Barndt rounded home again, this time on a Nick Turnage RBI groundout. It was 14-2 after four.
- Immaculata and Swarthmore countered each other in the back half of the afternoon. Alex Tronosky recorded a sac-fly to bring in Hunter Weitzel. Luke Hardnock would also see a sac-fly in the sixth for the final run of the day. Joey Guerci stepped in to pitch in the seventh. The freshman made his first career strikeout with two men on base. However, the Garnet ended the game with two strikeouts in the last three Immaculata batters in the bottom of the seventh. Swarthmore won 18-4.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Barndt led the team with two runs.
- Weitzel went 3-3 at the plate.
- Luther, Hardnock, Turnage, and Tronosky all had RBIs.
- McCartney went 4.2 innings on the mound in relief and struck out four batters.
