IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata men's volleyball kept each set competitive on Saturday versus the John Jay College Bloodhounds, but they fell 3-0.
The Mighty Macs are 2-4 for the season. They are 1-0 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST JOHN JAY
- Both teams got off to a quick start, as neither got too far ahead of the other. A 3-0 Mighty Macs run was countered by a 4-0 Bloodhounds drive. Despite the score being tied 15-15, John Jay used six straight points to take the lead for good. Although Luke Dortenzo logged an ace at the end of the set, the Bloodhounds won set one 25-20.
- Immaculata took control in the second set with an 8-2 start. Noah Zunski and Anthony Fitch each saw an ace. Michael Prall, Christian Lee, and Zunski would contribute kills as the Mighty Macs went up by eight. The Bloodhounds cut into their deficit, but timely Mighty Macs kills were the key. With a back-and-forth affair near the end of the set, the two sides went to "overtime" tied 24-24. However, the visitors finished the set off with a 26-24 victory.
- A slow Immaculata opening would segue into four consecutive points, as they led 6-5. A 6-1 John Jay push put them back in front before a few errors swung momentum to Immaculata. With a 22-18 advantage, John Jay concluded the afternoon with an Immaculata attack error and back-to-back kills. The Bloodhounds took set three 25-18, and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Zunksi led the Mighty Macs with seven kills.
- Dortenzo tallied 17 assists.
- Lee had team-highs of two solo blocks and seven digs.
