Women's Lacrosse Dealt Setback against Widener Pride

CHESTER, Pa. – Immaculata women's lacrosse kept their Wednesday evening game close in the first half with the Widener University Pride, but the Pride took control in the second for the 18-5 win.

The Mighty Macs are 0-3 for the season. Their first AEC game will be on Saturday, March 28 versus Marywood.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST WIDENER
  • Abigail Guarneri saw a save on a free position shot following Widener's first goal of the day. Elizabeth Mahmud put two shots in the net in the first quarter, both of which were on man-up situations. With the score at 2-2, the home team added three scores to their total. It was 5-2 Widener after one.
  • The second quarter was fairly even by both sides, as the Mighty Macs matched each Pride goal. Two of Immaculata's scores came on free-position shots. Aaliya Piperato continued her freshman streak of scoring at least one goal per game. With Widener picking up a green card, Mahmud cashed in for the fourth time to cut the deficit to three. The Pride led 8-5 at the half.
  • Widener pulled away in the third quarter with an 8-0 run. Despite a few good Immaculata attempts, the Pride's defense was too strong against the Mighty Macs' offense. The score was 16-5 after three.
  • Although Guarneri had a solid day in the net with 15 saves, Claire Dunfee checked in at goalie for the remaining 10:12. Alexa Marczak and Mahmud each caused a defensive turnover to give the Mighty Macs scoring opportunities, but the drives came up empty. The Mighty Macs fell 18-5.
