Men's Lacrosse Use Fast Start to Secure 16–7 Win at Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, Pa.- The Mighty Macs of Immaculata University used a dominant first half and balanced scoring attack to earn a 16–7 victory over Delaware Valley University on Wednesday evening.
 
Jude Azzarano and Aaron Headley led Immaculata with three goals each. Ryan Smaron had a five-point night, with two goals and three assists. Ryan Gorman added two goals and two assists, and Jacob Powell scored two goals for the Mighty Macs.
 
With the win, Immaculata improves to 4-1 overall, while Delaware Valley falls to 0-3 overall.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST DELAWARE VALLEY
  • Immaculata came out firing, scoring seven goals in the opening quarter to immediately seize control. Ryan Gorman opened the scoring at the 12:14 mark off a feed from Jason Smaron to give the Mighty Macs the early advantage. Smaron later added a goal of his own before Matt Frame found the net to extend the lead. Aaron Headley scored twice during the stretch, including a finish from John Stelacio, while Smaron recorded his second goal of the frame. Gorman capped the scoring late in the quarter with an unassisted tally as Immaculata closed the period with a 7–0 lead. The Mighty Macs dominated possession early, winning most of the face-offs and limiting Delaware Valley's opportunities on offense.
  • Immaculata continued to control play in the second quarter, adding five more goals to take a commanding 12–0 halftime lead. Jacob Powell opened the period with an unassisted goal before Jude Azzarano finished a setup from Ryan Gorman. Headley added his third goal of the afternoon off an assist from Matthew Frame. Azzarano struck again later in the quarter, and Powell closed the half with a goal off a pass from John Stelacio with seven seconds remaining before the break.
  • Immaculata extended its lead early in the third quarter when Brian Fuchs found the net with 11:02 remaining. Jude Azzarano followed with a man-up goal, converting a pass from Jason Smaron to push the advantage to 14–0 midway through the quarter. Delaware Valley was able to break through late in the period with a pair of extra-man goals, but the Mighty Macs still held a comfortable 14-2 lead entering the final quarter.
  • Delaware Valley made a push in the final quarter, scoring several goals to cut into the deficit. Immaculata responded late to secure the victory. Nick Senatore scored with 1:58 remaining off an assist from Thomas Laurenzano, halting the Aggies' momentum. Brody Moore added his first collegiate goal to cap the scoring and seal the 16–7 win for the Mighty Macs.
