Baseball Stumbles against Penn State Abington Nittany Lions

ABINGTON, Pa. – Immaculata baseball stayed competitive with the Penn State Abington Nittany Lions on Tuesday afternoon, but the Nittany Lions won 21-9 in eight innings.

The Mighty Macs are 6-13 for the season. They are 3-3 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST PENN STATE ABINGTON
  • Penn State Abington put themselves on the board in the first inning on a balk. The Mighty Macs recorded a strikeout to end the inning with two men on base. Both teams were not able to bring runners home, despite both seeing walks. Immaculata tied the game in the fourth on a Ryan Nace RBI single. The Nittany Lions grabbed three runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead. It was 4-1 through four.
  • After a Penn State Abington run in the fifth, Immaculata's offense burst open with five runs in the sixth. Luke Hardnock, Matt Passerini, and Robert Woodward all had RBIs. Passerini's was on a bases-clearing double. Penn State Abington answered with seven runs in the bottom of the inning, including two consecutive two-RBI plays. A Nick Turnage two-RBI double in the seventh cut the deficit to four. However, the Nittany Lions outscored the Mighty Macs 9-1 from the bottom of the seventh until the end of the game. The final play of the day was a three-run home run from Penn State Abington. The game concluded in the eighth due to the mercy rule. The final score was 21-9.
