IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata women's lacrosse captured a convincing 21-2 win on Monday against the Notre Dame of Maryland University Gators.
The Mighty Macs are 3-9 for the season. They are 0-1 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST NOTRE DAME OF MARYLAND
- The Mighty Macs' offense fired away not even 90 seconds into the game with an Alexa Marczak goal on a Julia Pohl assist. Immaculata would net eight goals in a row before the Gators saw their first of the day. Keira Benoit won the next draw control, which led to three more Mighty Macs goals. A Samari Rodriguez score capped off the first quarter. Through 15 minutes, Immaculata held a dominant 11-1 lead.
- Immaculata continued to attack in the second quarter, adding five more goals to their total. Five different Mighty Macs also forced a Gators turnover. To end the first half, Morgan Barnes got past the goalie for the first two times in her career. One was assisted by Benoit, the other by Carly Oberg. Notre Dame of Maryland saw their final score of the afternoon with 56 seconds remaining. It was 16-2 at halftime.
- Clare Dunfee checked in at goalie to start the second half. After a Riley Mullen caused turnover and ground ball pickup, she would see her first goal of the season, assisted by Pohl. Elizabeth Mahmud scored one of her own moments later to increase the advantage to 16. Immaculata was up 18-2 through three.
- Anna Monterroso switched into goal for Dunfee in the fourth quarter. The Mighty Macs put three more goals into the net. Marczak was responsible for two of those three. Bailee Neitz logged her first career point by assisting on the former. The Mighty Macs were victorious 21-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Mahmud led the team with seven goals and tied Mullen with three caused turnovers.
- Marczak followed Mahmud with six goals.
- Benoit's three goals and three assists netted her six points.
- Pohl had four assists and six draw controls.
- Abigail Guarneri played 30 minutes in goal and made one save.
