GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Immaculata baseball defeated the Gwynedd Mercy University Griffins on Friday behind a solid afternoon from
Hunter Weitzel.
The Mighty Macs are 5-11 for the season. They are 2-2 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST GWYNEDD MERCY
- Thomas DeSarno made a stand in the first inning, striking out the final Griffins batter of the inning with bases loaded. Weitzel scored on a wild pitch in the second to clear the zeroes off the board. Immaculata would add to their advantage in the third on a Logan Barndt sac-bunt that brought Robert Woodward home. Despite a hit-by-pitch to start the bottom of the third, the Mighty Macs' defense recorded three consecutive groundouts to end Gwynedd Mercy's offensive drive. It was 2-0 through three.
- Woodward tallied an RBI single in the fourth to score JT Luther. The Mighty Macs retired the Griffins in three straight batters in the fifth to keep the home team scoreless. Even with a Gwynedd Mercy runner in scoring position in the sixth, nothing happened offensively. Immaculata led 3-0 after six.
- The Griffins cut into the deficit in the seventh with a two-RBI double. Immaculata answered in the eighth via a Weitzel score on a Gwynedd Mercy throwing error. Immaculata pulled away in the ninth with a Weitzel RBI single and Danny Nocito coming home on a wild pitch. The Mighty Macs' defense stood tall in the bottom of the ninth with John Fitzpatrick striking out the last batter of the game. Immaculata claimed a 6-2 victory.
