IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata women's lacrosse hosted the Lycoming College Warriors on a chilly Monday afternoon, but the visitors won 20-10.
The Mighty Macs are 0-2 for the season. Their first AEC game will be on Saturday, March 28 versus Marywood.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST LYCOMING
- The Warriors began on a 3-0 run before Alexa Marczak found the net. Elizabeth Mahmud cashed in on a man-up free-position shot to cut the deficit to two, but Lycoming got one more goal as the quarter neared the end. It was 5-2 Lycoming after one.
- Lycoming's offense remained aggressive in the second quarter by adding three more scores. Immaculata got the next two, including Izzie Thomas on the latter for her first collegiate goal. Marczak completed a first-half hat trick with a score at 3:18 remaining. It was part of a 4-1 Immaculata run. Aaliya Piperato converted following a successful clear. However, the Warriors were up 11-6 at the half.
- Mahmud continued her strong day in the second half with consecutive third-quarter goals. Brooke Kakowski saw three of her four caused turnovers in the third. The Warriors led 14-8 through three.
- Both of Immaculata's goals in the fourth came on man-up situations, with the former being a free position. Mahmud and Thomas each got past the goalie once. The Warriors' offense netted six scores in the final frame, and Immaculata's Claire Dunfee checked in at goalie for the last four minutes of action. Dunfee made a save in the waning moments, as 20-10 was the final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Mahmud led the team with four goals, two assists, and eight draw controls.
- Abigail Guarneri and Alexa Marczak each scooped up four ground balls.
- Kakowski caused four defensive turnovers.
