SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Immaculata women's lacrosse dropped a midweek decision to the Swarthmore College Garnet 18-2.
The Mighty Macs are 0-8 for the season. Their first AEC game will be on Saturday, March 28 versus Marywood.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST SWARTHMORE
- Abigail Guarneri held off a Garnet shot not even 15 seconds into the game. However, Swarthmore's offense was aggressive early on. Aaliya Piperato earned a free-position shot, but it was saved. Swarthmore led 10-0 after one.
- A 5-0 Swarthmore run in the second quarter was countered with a Julia Pohl goal. It was Pohl's first goal in her first career game. Fellow newcomer Keira Benoit had won the previous draw control. It was 15-1 at the half.
- Immaculata and Swarthmore engaged in a defensive battle in the third, with neither team scoring. Clare Dunfee checked in for Guarneri at goal. Elizabeth Mahmud was the primary shot taker in the quarter, but two shots were saved. The Garnet were up 15-1 after three.
- Both sides were quiet early in the final frame. Piperato would have a good drive by causing a turnover, scooping the ground ball, and netting Immaculata's second goal of the evening. With 8:40 left, Anna Monterroso replaced Dunfee at goalie. The Garnet's offense added three more scores in the waning moments, as the home team won 18-2.
