Mahmud and Marczak Pace Offense in Women's Lacrosse's Tough Loss to Goucher Gophers

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata women's lacrosse kept their game close at halftime against the Goucher College Gophers on Saturday, but Goucher won 16-9.

The Mighty Macs are 0-7 for the season. Their first AEC game will be on Saturday, March 28 versus Marywood.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST GOUCHER
  • The Gophers netted five of their goals in the first quarter, with four coming unanswered. Immaculata stopped the run at 1:31 with an Alexa Marczak score, assisted by Elizabeth Mahmud. It was 5-1 after one.
  • The two sides went to work in the second quarter, with a combined seven goals taking place. The Mighty Macs finished a drive the opposite way as the previous goal: Mahmud scored on a Marczak assist. Although two Gophers scores pushed the deficit back to five, Marczak struck again on a man-down situation. This time, Samari Rodriguez helped out on the pass. It was part of a 3-1 Immaculata run. Mahmud scored the last two goals of the half, the latter of which was on a Morgan Barnes dime on a man-up situation. Goucher led 8-5 at the break.
  • The Gophers scored about a minute into the second half. Abigail Guarneri saved a free-position shot, despite Goucher netting a goal a few minutes later. A Goucher green card segued into Aaliya Piperato taking advantage of the man-up opportunity and scoring unassisted. Both sides put up shots in the waning moments in the quarter, but only one of Goucher's got through. The Gophers led 11-6 through three.
  • Early in the fourth, the Mighty Macs attempted to trim the deficit with a 3-1 push. Izzie Thomas began the successful Immaculata drives with a caused turnover. Marczak scored the initial two, both from Mahmud passes, followed by Mahmud getting past the goalie on a man-down free position. With the score at 12-9, Immaculata would see a few defensive stops from Thomas and Guarneri. However, the Gophers concluded the afternoon with four straight goals. Goucher won 16-9.
