Baseball Falls to Hobart Statesmen

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Immaculata baseball got a strong pitching performance from Alex LePage on Friday afternoon, despite the Mighty Macs' 5-0 defeat to the Hobart College Statesmen.

The Mighty Macs are 2-8 for the season. Their first AEC game will be on Friday, March 20 versus Marymount.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST HOBART
  • The game was a defensive battle at the start, until the Statesmen put a score on the board with an RBI bunt. Hobart added to their lead in the third inning on back-to-back plays. LePage struck out the final batter, as Hobart led 4-0 through three.
  • Immaculata placed a runner on base in the top of the fifth on an error, but the Statesmen retired two on the next batter via a double play. Although JT Luther was walked in the sixth, and he stole second, the scoring opportunity was denied. LePage picked off a Hobart runner at second to end the inning, with the score still at 4-0.
  • Stephen Devanney stepped on the hill in the seventh. The Mighty Macs recorded a double play just two batters into Devanney's stint. A Hobart double in the eighth scored the last run of the day. Luke Hardnock singled in the ninth, but a fly-out was the third out. Hobart won 5-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Luther and Hardnock each had a team-high two hits.
  • Luther and Matt Passerini each earned a walk.
  • LePage went the first six innings on the mound and recorded four strikeouts.
