MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Immaculata baseball was edged by the Nichols College Bison on Thursday morning 17-6.
The Mighty Macs are 2-7 for the season. Their first AEC game will be on Friday, March 20 versus Marymount.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST NICHOLS
- The Bison grabbed a 4-0 lead early with two home runs in the first inning. They would add to it in the second and third, while the Mighty Macs offense stayed quiet. Immaculata got on the board with a Josh Goulburn RBI single, which scored Justin Hoffmann. It was 8-1 after three innings.
- The two sides countered runs in the fourth. Nick Turnage brought Joey Ditta around home plate with an RBI double. This forced a Nichols pitching change. Immaculata doubled their score in the bottom of the sixth, thanks to Matt Passerini and Goulburn scoring on RBI walks with bases loaded. The Bison led 11-4 through six.
- Nichols' offense continued their attack in the latter part of the game. The Mighty Macs answered in the eighth and the ninth with an Alex Tronosky RBI double and a double play. Despite grounding out into a double play in the ninth, Luke Hardnock snuck past the Bison defense for the score. A groundout ended the game, though, as Nichols won 17-6.
