MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Immaculata baseball was one out away from forcing extra innings on Monday against the Bridgewater State University Bears.
The Mighty Macs are 1-5 for the season. Their first AEC game will be on Friday, March 20 versus Marymount.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST BRIDGEWATER STATE
- On just the third batter of the game, Danny Nocito hit an RBI double to give the Mighty Macs a 1-0 lead. They would add to it in the second and third innings, courtesy of Matt Passerini scoring on a wild pitch and a Ryan Nace groundout RBI. The Bears retired the Mighty Macs in the top of the third with bases loaded, but Immaculata countered with a 1-2-3 inning for Bridgewater State's offense in the bottom of the inning.
- The Bears got back in the game in the bottom of the fourth with six runs. They broke the tie with a two-RBI double. Both sides were quiet in the fifth before the Mighty Macs hits from Nocito and Nace put them up 7-6.
- A Bridgewater State score in the bottom of the seventh tied the game at 7-7, which set the stage for the final innings. Immaculata scooped up a double play on defense in the bottom of the ninth, and they needed just one out to force a 10th inning. However, a solo walk-off Bears home run would be the deciding factor, as they won 8-7.
