Men's Soccer Defeats Centenary Cyclones in Conference Opener

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Immaculata men's soccer was victorious over the Centenary University Cyclones 2-1 on Saturday, as they opened their Atlantic East Conference schedule.

The Mighty Macs are 2-8 for the season. They are 1-0 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST CENTENARY (N.J.)
  • The match was fairly quiet early on, even with a few Immaculata shots being slightly off-target. It was not until the 25th minute, where Brady Derkosh broke the tie on a goal that landed in the upper center of the net. Luca Greppellini denied multiple Cyclones attempts to keep the home team scoreless. With under 10 seconds remaining in the first half, Daniel Becker almost made it 2-0, but his shot was too far to the right. It was 1-0 at the half.
  • Defense was on display by both sides to start the second half. Immaculata defended three straight corner kicks. In the 56th minute, Michael Prall extended the Mighty Macs' advantage on another upper center shot. Prall tried to score again moments later, but the shot was saved. Centenary countered just after to cut the deficit in half. Despite this, the lead was secured for the remainder of the match. Immaculata won 2-1.

  • Derkosh and Prall each scored unassisted.
  • Immaculata took 19 shots (eight on goal), as opposed to Centenary's 16 (four on goal).
