ASTON, Pa.- The Immaculata University women's basketball team opened Atlantic East Conference play in strong fashion, defeating Neumann University 75–55 on Wednesday evening.
Riley Cassidy led all scorers with 14 points, while
Carly Coleman recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
With the victory, the Mighty Macs improve to 9–3 overall and 1–0 in Atlantic East Conference play. Neumann falls to 2–10 overall and 0–1 in conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED VS NEUMANN
- Riley Cassidy sparked Immaculata early, scoring on a pair of layups as the Mighty Macs jumped out to a 7–0 lead with 5:55 remaining in the first quarter.
- Carly Coleman knocked down a jumper late in the opening frame, giving Immaculata an 18–12 advantage after one quarter.
- Neumann cut the lead to seven at 28-21 with 1:45 remaining in the second quarter.
- Immaculata answered with a three-pointer from Olivia Ettorre and a layup by Meg Robbins to extend the lead to 37–22 at halftime.
- Abby Grillo and Carly Coleman opened the third quarter with layups, pushing the Mighty Macs' lead to 41–22 with 8:45 remaining.
- Riley Cassidy drained a three-pointer to extend the lead to 46-26 midway through the quarter.
- Emma Wagner capped the third quarter with a buzzer-beating three, sending Immaculata into the fourth quarter ahead 60–34.
- In the fourth quarter Adriana Bristow hit a three-pointer, and Morgan Robinson scored on a layup as Immaculata went on to close out the win 75-55.
